When Magda was 18, after graduation, she went to Sweden to see KONDOR Alfred (the older brother of her mother) and help at his business. She stayed 2 years (1931-33). Returning to Budapest from Stockholm by train she passed through Berlin and got her first glimpse of rising Nazi fanaticism. When she returned she worked as the chief finanical officer of a textile factory which was unusual considering she was only 22 or 23. The company was owned by Jews. She lost her job and the company was probably closed down in the late 30s. She then got a job working for the Swedish embassy because she spoke fluent Swedish. She was part of a team that organized rescue trips for Jews taken from safe houses. She worked on letters of protection and other administrative work. Later, other members of the family also worked for Wallenberg.[4]
